A TRIP TO THE THEATRE

As we do every year, last Friday our secondary students went to the theatre to see a play called “Escape Room”.  Going to the theatre is usually a great activity as they practice their listening skills in a different and motivating way and they also develop their imagination and creativity. This year´s play was about an escape room game in which Irene and Alfred, the two main characters, participated with the help of our students.  They were trapped in a hotel room from which they had to escape safely or they would be captured by the dangerous mob led by the most feared gangster of the time, Al Capone. Some of our students helped the two main characters to solve the different clues and trials and we all had a great time at the theatre.

Let´s go to the Theatre

TEATRO EN INGLÉS: NEW YORK & NEW DELHI

On the 5th February, all Secondary students went to the theatre to watch an English play called New York, New Delhi. It was really funny and there were a lot of famous songs, but the plot wasn’t interesting enough. All of us thought that it would be different.

Leyre Lopes (1º ESO) y Eva Navarro (4º ESO) en el escenario
The play was about two people, a boy and a girl, who met at the airport. Suddenly, they heard that their flights had been cancelled. They talked a lot and they discovered that they were good friends in the past.

They remembered a lot of anecdotes: when a teacher punished them, when they went to a music concert and it was suspended or when they went to a football match and it was suspended too … It was also the perfect occasion to bring back memories of the love they both felt from the first moment they met.

During the scenes, the actors asked us for help and some volunteers helped them. When the play finished, we could ask some questions to the actors.

The scenes weren’t as good as we had expected but we spent time listening to actors speaking English and it was useful to improve our ability to understand the language.

Saint Patrick’s Day

Saint Patrick’s Day
On 17th March we celebrated Saint Patrick’s day, so in our English lesson we worked about him.
We learnt that he was British, but he lived in Ireland because he was captured by Irish pirates.
He became a priest and some centuries later Patrick was named as the patron Saint of Ireland.
Nowadays, people celebrate parades and concerts, not only in Ireland but all over the world. Furthermore our mates in Primary wore green clothes to celebrate this day.
We enjoyed a lot learning about the culture of other countries.

SYMBOLS:

The shamrock: Used to help people to understand God. The Irish have considered shamrocks as good-luck symbols since earliest times, and today people of many other nationalities also believe they bring good luck.

Leprechaun: magical person from Irish folk tales.

CELEBRATION:
People wear green clothes and shamrocks. They eat beef, cabbage, potatoes…

GHOSTS IN LOVE

On 20th February secondary-school pupils went to the theatre to watch a play called ”Ghosts in love”. There, we enjoyed ourselves a lot and we learned new expressions and words.

Also, some of us took part in the performance as volunteers and they helped the comedians dancing, singing or becoming famous models.

At the end we had a meeting with the actors, we could ask them some questions and they really kindly answered us.

We think that this is a funny and entertaining way to learn English and next year we want to repeat this activity again.

OUR TRIP TO ENNIS (IRELAND)

OUR TRIP TO ENNIS (IRELAND)

At the end of January pupils from the first, second and third year of ESO carried out an immersion language trip to Ennis (Ireland). It lasted eight days.
Our aim is that our students put their English skills into practice to improve them in a country. where that language is spoken
In the morning they took English lessons at the Clare Language Centre and in the afternoon they did different activities: an orientation tour of Ennis town with a quiz, a photography project, bowling, traditional Irish sports like Hurling…
They visited Dublin, the famous Cliffs of Moher and the beautiful city of Galway too.
In the evening they spent time with their host families.
This was a great and unforgettable experience that everybody wants to repeat.

                   We love Ireland!

THANKSGIVING DAY

THANKSGIVING DAY

On Thursday 24th November we celebrated “Thanksgiving day” in our school.
We carried out an activity with our students related to this special time of the year: They decorated big turkeys with feathers.
On the feathers, each student painted or wrote what they were grateful for in life.
The main corridor was full of children from all classes who wanted to paste their work and take the time to give thanks to their families, friends, education…
It was amazing!

Short and rhyme, poems manage to attract the attention of children. This time is used to teach them rhyming, to memorize and understand; why not, a set of values.
Poetry has multiple benefits: children are attracted to her for her musicality and rhythm, memory exercises, new vocabulary is acquired, it improves oral expression, sensitivity work, imagination...

So, this year 1º ESO celebrated the holiday of Halloween. All designed an activity which they called POEMWEEN who managed to attract the attention of students created short, rhyming poems, in English with vocabulary of Halloween. Then, they performance their poems.

LET´S GO TO THE THEATRE

 MARY FRANKENSTEIN

On the second of February students from La Inmaculada and Escolapios went to Alcañiz theatre.
We watched a play called “Mary Frankenstein”. It was about a girl, Mary, who was the great-granddaughter of the English writer Mary Shelly, the author of “Frankenstein”. She wanted to make a new version of the classic book.
She persuaded her best friend Victor to help her in this ambitious project.
During the scenes, the actors needed help and some volunteers from both schools helped them. We had a lot of fun and when the play finished, we could ask some questions to the actors.
They were from England and we learnt a lot.
